About us |
Since its founding by Barry Alexander and Cosmo Buono, The Alexander & Buono Competitions, or ABC, have been responsible for helping to launch the careers of more than one hundred and fifty classical music artists throughout the world. Comprised of the Barry Alexander International Vocal Competition, the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition, and the Alexander and Buono International String Competition, ABC is designed to help its winners not only begin, but also sustain professional careers, by fulfilling an ongoing commitment to provide artists with opportunities to perform wherever possible (abcompetitions.org). As the organization has grown, so have its affiliated branches, all designed to meet the needs of artists as comprehensively as possible. The Alexander & Buono Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, provides scholarships and study grants to competition winners, many of whom perform at the ABC Gala, an annual fundraising event that includes a concert at Carnegie Hall. In addition, The Alexander & Buono Festival of Music, held each July in Abano Terme, Italy, functions as a laboratory for artists from around the world to hone repertoire and enhance technique through daily master classes, and extensive performance opportunities in recitals held each evening throughout the city, in multiple locations, during the ten-day period. The Festival also includes daily seminars called "The Business of Music" designed to help participating musicians understand as much as possible about practical elements associated with having a successful career. ABC also includes a management agency, Alexander & Buono International, devoted exclusively to the worldwide representation of selected ABC winners. |
